Note:
|
The Double-Taper Collet incorporates a wrap-around action, supplying the solid grip for which it is known.
One slot is cut completely through the collet wall. Then, as the collet is drawn into the taper of the chuck, the collet
wraps around the shank of the tool being held, gripping on a continuous surface the full length of the collet.
|
|
Because of this design, one collet is required for each tool shank diameter. These collets are not "spring collets" like
the Acura-Flex series collets that are designed to hold any tool shank diameter from the stated collet size down to
the next standard collet size. Tightening a Double-Taper collet on an undersized tool shank will result in the
collet not returning all the way back to its original design size and it may no longer be able to take its
intended tool shank diameter.
|
|
All the used Double-Taper Collets I sell have been pin gauge verified that they will accept the intended tool shank size.
If a collet is slightly undersize (snug fit, but tool can easily be inserted by hand), and is otherwise in excellent condition, I give it an Excellent condition code.
If it is undersize (tight fit that requires force to insert tool, but can be inserted by hand) it is given a Very Good condition code.
If it is very tight fit, hard to insert tool by hand, it is given a Good Functional condition code.
If it is undersize to the point of requiring mechanical assistance to insert tool, or worse, it is given a Poor (or worse) condition code and the detailed description of that collet will define how bad the collapse is.
